Standard Process Detox Testimonials - January 2024

2024 kicked off with a BANG!

30+ people in our Active Life family started out the New Year on the Standard Process Detox program!

Here are their stories!

  1. Why did you want to start this detox?

  2. What did you notice while on the detox?

  3. Which habits will you continue in order to reach your health goals?

Grant

  1. I started after encouragement from Dr. Steve and Dr. Michaela. I have been struggling with a lot of inflammation in my back and ribs, making adjustments harder and quicker for my nervous system to fall out of whack again. They suggested the cleanse as a way to hopefully clear out a lot of inflammation from processed foods, sugars, dairy, and gluten.

  2. I noticed a lot of changes from the cleanse. Initially, my energy levels dropped and I was extremely fatigued as I felt lots of toxins leaving my body. After about 4 days, I felt my energy come back naturally, almost even more than it was before. By the end of the cleanse I was in a great mood, with plenty of energy for the day. I also felt better physically. I was much less bloated, I felt more flexible, and my adjustments with Dr. Steve and Dr. Michaela felt much easier and lasted longer before I felt crappy again.

  3. There's a lot of changes I will be making permanently after the cleanse. I'm going to pay much closer attention to foods and ingredients I buy. It felt so much better to eat more natural foods, and I want to continue to stay away from processed sugars and artificial flavors and colors. I will also be keeping my portions smaller, especially portions of dairy, gluten, and snack foods.

  1. I wanted to complete the detox to decrease inflammation in my body in the hopes of relieving chronic pain and digestive difficulties. I also wanted to reboot my system to support my weight management goals.  The program felt doable and less restrictive than I anticipated. Day 1 was the most challenging (hello caffeine headache!) but I knew if I could get through that, I could do 9 more days!

  2. During the detox, I was more conscious about what I was fueling my body with - the amount of protein, more whole foods, fruit and vegetable consumption, water intake.  Not reaching for pre-packaged, highly processed foods became less challenging especially because I had already prepped meals and snacks.

  3. Two unexpected benefits of the detox were that we had far less unused/spoiled food in our fridge and our trash bin was a lot less full. I felt fantastic after the 10 day detox. So much so that I decided to keep going! My body has felt better than it has in a long time.  I’m continuing with meal planning/prepping, keeping my protein intake up, continuing to minimize processed foods, and drink all the water!

  1. I knew I would be eating lots of sweets over Christmas vacation and wanted to slow down and clean up eating after Christmas.

  2.  I didn't feel hungry but I would still have cravings. Now I can have a healthier treat and be satisfied.

  3.  I have gone back to working out more and haven't been drinking pop. I hope to eat healthier and eat more protein and vegetables.

JoLyn

  1. I wanted to start the cleanse because I felt blah and had some extra weight to lose and doing it with a group would help me stick with it.

  2. I love coffee it's more of a comfort drink, but I had been having caffeine headaches and taking myself off of coffee was hard and I felt really crappy, tired and achey the first day, but felt better by the 3rd day. Since then I have not had any headaches. I feel lighter, my stomach feels emptier maybe less bloated is the right word. I have more energy, but still feel a little tired, maybe adding more protein and more sleep will help with that? I have been replacing coffee with hot lemon water, or organic tazo teas. My face feels smoother or more hydrated. I feel fuller, or not as hungry anymore, it was hard to get  enough food in some days, and I don't crave sugar as much, or want to snack very often.

  3. I want to try stick to the program as much as possible. Finish my shakes and supplements, try to stay away from carbs and sugar, definitely keep drinking hot lemon water in place of coffee if I can. Before the program I was trying intermittent fasting, but hit a plateau so this diet change helped, and I might go back to trying that, so I stop snacking in the mornings and evenings or when I am bored.

Taylor

  1. Reset my eating habits to develop healthier ones.

  2. I noticed improved sleep and digestion after the first 4 days. Along with less inflammation and swelling in my hands and feet. I also noticed I was fuller faster and for longer periods of time.

  3. I am still continue to cut out refined carbs (pasta, bread, pastries), as well as reducing dairy and eating more whole foods.

Steve

  1. I wanted to eliminate excess water weight.  Shed toxins for better liver function and better health.

  2. I Shed tons of extra water weight, 9.5 lbs overall. Increased energy day 3.

  3.  I will continue to restrict bad carbs and sugars. Continue to increase water and electrolyte intake. More consistent with good meal choices. This was the second time doing the 10 day cleanse. Was much easier. Will do it 1-2 times a year.

Vicki & Dennis

  1. To jumpstart getting on a healthy path for 2024 and work on my intestinal issues. For Dennis - jumpstart weight loss - after long struggle.

  2. I was not hungry. Made us focus on better meal planning choices, which we really enjoyed doing. My gut felt really good by day five.   After day 2, I didn't miss the coffee. We kept up our daily treadmill walking during the detox too.

  3. Losing the weight for Dennis was very helpful to continue eating good meals.  Getting more protein in our daily diet. Work on adding more good fiber that doesn't bother my gut. Cutting back on coffee. Continue to increase daily walking and exercise.

We both thought the detox was well worth us doing! Thanks Kayla for all of your coaching, suggestions and listening to all my concerns and questions! You are awesome!

Genell

  1. To help my body after last years back injury.

  2. Hard to drink the shake without adding banana and organic protein powder each time. Fell off the schedule.

  3. try to eat on a more regular basis

Sue

  1. I need something to help me lose weight.

  2. After a few days, I was sleeping so much better and no hot flashes.

  3. I am trying to be more conscious of what I am eating, trying to eat healthier and drink my water.

Mike

  1. Blood sugars were out of control. Felt blotted at that time.

  2. It was definitely helpful for my sugar count. I can drink about anything

  3. I hope to eat the right foods. By by taco Tuesday, McDonald's, Berger king, A&B pizza; places will start closing

Drew

  1. I wanted to support my wife by eating the same thing for 10 days and see how my body would respond to eating that way. I wanted to see how much weight I could drop by eating very strategically

  2. I don't drink a ton of caffeine during a normal day and I do enjoy desserts most evenings. I thought that would be the biggest challenge by removing those items from my diet. I couldn't believe how much my body craved gluten. That's what I craved the most along with crunch. My mood was really negatively affected until the half way point. I noticed that my BM were almost always larger and less messy. I noticed my stomach was slimming down even after 10 days.

  3. I am going to change my lunches 2-3 days per week where I will bring food from home. It's easy to eat at school but the food often is not very good for you. I am going to eat chicken and rice for lunch those days.

Helen

  1. I did the detox to try to get rid of belly fat.

  2. I noticed I was more fatigued about the middle of the program. I was not able to eat nearly as much as they recommended. The days on the 3 shakes I felt like I was committing gluttony - way too much with the 96 oz of water I drink a day, not counting the water in the shakes.

  3. It was easy to get the recommended protein on the days when 2 & 3 shakes were on the menu. I'm going to challenge myself to keep up the recommended protein levels. I also like a salty or sweet snack once in awhile. It'll be hard not to ever treat myself. The rest was pretty easy.

Danita

  1. The detox seemed really doable and realistic in my lifestyle. I also knew I’d be coming off of Christmas and eating lots of sugar.

  2. I was surprised that I didn’t miss caffeine, which I thought would be the hardest part. I wasn’t tired or hungry- it really wasn’t too hard. I did drink the shakes hot and really liked it!

  3. Several of the eating habits will be staples for me: yogurt, avocados, oil instead of butter, less ranch and more vinaigrettes, less cheese, and less coffee. MORE WATER!

The Culprit of Colic

The Culprit of Colic

There comes a point when we’ve tried everything and feel defeated, as if we’ve failed our children. But what if there is an underlining cause for this behavior?

6 Ways to Improve Your Mood Naturally

Chiropractic care is all about naturally improving the body. You can introduce natural methods that improve your life in many ways, including how you feel! Have you ever woken up on the wrong side of the bed, angry or unhappy for no real reason? You aren’t the only one! Rather than reaching for stimulants like tea or coffee or spending your whole day in a negative mood, consider what you can do to change how you feel, naturally.

How Does Chiropractic Promote Overall Health?

Are you aware that our nervous system is essentially the master of our entire body? We live our life through the nervous system, so, simply put: a better nervous system means a better life. Our nervous system effects everything from our ability to digest food, enjoy a sunny day, or be delighted by a child’s laughter. Our nervous system is what allows us to experience life at a greater level. However, if your nervous system is compromised, it will affect your ability to live life to the fullest.

How to Avoid a Crisis of Illness

Maybe it starts off mild: a tickle in the throat, a minor case of the sniffles, or slight muscle aches. It’s a feeling we’ve all experienced before, so you go bed early and hope that a good night’s sleep will help your body knock out whatever bug you’ve got this time, But, when you wake up in the morning, you are as sick as a dog. Illnesses come on suddenly and without much warning, disrupting our daily lives, routines, and body.

What’s the Connection: Chiropractic Care and Nutrition

You purchase organic groceries at the health food store. You avoid highly processed, GMO foods. You seek out items that are high in nutrition with a short shelf life. Long story short, you are nailing healthy eating!

But, what if your nervous system isn’t functioning optimally? That would mean all those healthy foods you are consuming are going to waste. It’s basically like storing them in an unplugged refrigerator.

What's the Connection: Chiropractic and Headaches

There are thousands of different triggers that can result in headaches, and one thing is true for all headaches — they happen for a reason. A headache is your body’s way of communicating to you that something isn’t right. The problem is, you don’t always know what it is that’s causing the headache, particularly because the cause of your headache doesn’t always come from or near the area where you are feeling the pain.

Top of the To-Do List: Sleep!

Many of us have ever-growing to-do lists. We’ve got to get the grocery shopping done, cook, entertain, get to school and work, take part in the regular festivities, and sometimes sleeps gets bumped to the bottom of the list. Here are a few suggestions to help you get the sleep you need to stay energized all season!
