Massage Therapy and Our Therapist
Leah Keller, LMT
I am originally from Dickinson, ND and moved to Bismarck in 2006 to get my education for massage therapy. I started my education at Rasmussen College here in Bismarck, but after meeting my husband, I moved to MN and graduated in the spring of 2009 from Rasmussen College Eden Prairie Campus. After just a couple of years in the busy cities, we decided to move back to ND, as my husband and I are both from here and missed the small town lifestyle.I first heard of Active Life Chiropractic when I was in an auto accident and went for treatment for myself in 2007. I have 2 years experience as a massage therapist in Rosemount, MN and was looking hard for a great place to work again when I moved back to Bismarck. After coming to Active Life for chiropractic treatments, Dr. Doug and Dr. Sara gave me a great opportunity to come work with them. I jumped at the offer not knowing a lot about chiropractic, but am now learning how chiropractic and massage therapy work hand in hand when used together. In my free time, I like to spend time with my husband, family, and friends. I love playing volleyball, scrapbooking, fishing, and I just started hunting. I love my new job as Active Life’s Massage Therapist and I am ready to help anyone live a healthy lifestyle.

The History of Massage
Massage dates back at least 4,000 years. Some civilians in the East and West found that natural healing and massage could help injuries, relieve pain, and prevent and cure illnesses. It also happened to reduce stress and produce deep relaxation.
In the early 20th century, many new and rediscovered massage techniques were documented and practiced in the United States. Massage was also used to treat World War I patients who were suffering from nerve injury or shell shock.
Massage is now used on many different populations for many different reasons. Infants, children, teenagers, adults and the elderly can all benefit from massage in some way. Those in intensive care units, babies in incubators, and patients with cancer, heart attacks and strokes are just a few examples of the different populations that are frequently aided by massage. Massage is also frequently offered in health centers, nursing homes, drug treatment clinics and pain management clinics.
